Ben Yung - BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Development

Ben Yung is 26 and was born in Hong Kong. He studied for a BA in Accounting before coming to LCF to study BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Development. He lives in London and recommends those studying at the John Princes Street site should lunch at Café Lido around the corner.

Do you miss home?

Yes and no - definitely miss my family and friends but also love my freedom here.

So, what is Fashion Design and Development?

Designing something with a purpose for a particular audience.

Where would you like to work?

London or New York

Which College sites do you study at?

Depends on my classes, but mostly at John Princes Street, Curtain Road and Davies Street.

What other College facilities do you use?

Library, canteen and IT room.

Why LCF?

Well-known, good reputation, good atmosphere and course variety.

Take us through a typical day.

If I have college then it's usually a day in classes, maybe lunch with some classmates and then home (sounds fun right?) If it's my day off then I'm usually out exploring London - whether it's shopping (or as we like to call it market research) or going to the movies, coffee with friends etc.

LCF has very strong industry links. Have you done any work placements?

Yes, quite a few. LCF has a good name so it wasn't difficult to look for placements.

How did you approach finding a work placement?

Tutors are a great help as a lot of them work in the industry themselves. Also, through the websites in college or sending out CVs to whoever you want to work for.

One piece of advice you would give to an overseas student wanting to study at LCF?

Just enjoy the ride. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity to be in a place like London so savour it. Oh, and it's gonna be expensive so save up!!

What are the biggest challenges being an overseas student in London?

Some people can find London too overwhelming and they become a bit lost - language problems/cultural differences may also be difficult but you just learn as you go!
