Draping on the stand 1
Draping (often called modelling) is the pattern cutting method used by many designers, particularly for couture designs, which enables patterns to be created using a 3D approach of draping fabric onto a body form or workroom stand to interpret ideas. The shape is then transferred onto paper to obtain a pattern.
The course will include:
- The differences between the stand size, actual body measurements and size charts
- Fabric characteristics
- Bodice & skirts
- Sleeves
- Styling with dart manipulation
- Skirts: A-line, circular, gathers & pleats
- Collars

You will need to bring:
- Set square or Pattern Master
- Dressmakers pins
- Narrow black stay tape (10m)
- Metric tape measure
- Fabric shears
- Paper scissors
- Small pointed scissors
- 30cm ruler
- Glue stick
- Tracing wheel with a serrated edge
- Hard pencils
- Soft pencils
- Rubber
- Hand sewing needles
- Thread (any colour)
