Current Research

My work widely spans the arts, sciences and new technology fields. I produce projects which illuminate aspects of science and well being in ways that directly interact with the public, with the broad aim of helping individuals reach their full creative potential. More recently I have begun to focus my creative energy on working in collaboration with other Universities and industry to solve global problems through cross - disciplinary means.

My current project Catalytic Clothing seeks to explore how clothing and textiles can be used as a catalytic surface to purify air, employing existing technology in a new way. Working alongside chemist Prof Tony Ryan PVC Faculty of Science at Sheffield University, we are people from very different worlds but whose minds have come together over recent years in highly successful art/science collaborations which have led to real world applications.

I am a member of the Centre for Sustainable Fashion here at London College of Fashion.

Recent Research

2008 – Present, Catalytic Clothing

Catalytic Clothing emerged during 'Wonderland', extending the collaborative model; I aim to use clothing technology to improve health, and to directly engage the public and industry in its delivery. A series of cultural and art interventions will bring this forthcoming technology into the public domain, seeking to engage you, in helping us shape our world for the better.

2005 – 2008, Wonderland
A dynamic collaboration that combines the worlds of art, fashion and chemistry to create solutions to global environmental dilemmas. The research and development was supported by an EPSRC grant.  A series of 27 dissolving dresses were created in the gallery at LCF during Feb 2008, to showcase this collaboration between Helen and Professor Tony Ryan ( University of Sheffield) and in association with Trish Belford and the Interface textile team at University of Ulster. For more information on the project please visit the SHOWstudio website, who tracked the project and created unique films for it. http://showstudio.com/project/wonderland
